Zadie Smith blends the Victorian Gothic style with the tale of a neolithic foster family in masterful fashion! The subplot involving adoption of the Platypus-like creature, wonderfully mirrors (and gently mocks) the themes of inclusion present in much of our modern literature. A must read if you carry even a mild disdain for your fellow human beings.
