I definitely enjoyed the series, though it is very slow paced. It's not really until episode 5 that reveals start to happen and the plot starts to make more sense. Not sure if i could get through an entire book of it because it's so slow moving. One of my favorite plot loops is how Laura kills the gunman in the beginning - it's exactly how nick killed maplecroft 30 years prior. I also found young Jane to be quite dull, maybe that's how the character is in the book. All in all, it's a good show. Just be patient.

Almost done with season 1. I really like the show, not for the "true crime" but for the conceptual storyline. Murphy, though, is beyond annoying lol. Classic "woe is me I'm damaged and it's an excuse to treat everyone like garbage". But it's a good show and I'll continue watching it. Editing now that I'm almost done with season 3. It's a good show, not great. But man is Murphy the absolute worst. She ruined everyone else's lives, not to mention she's a horrible dog parent! Pretzel keeps her alive basically and she drags him on her crime sprees, stranded out in the cold. Poor boy. She is definitely the most irritating, POS character I've seen in a long time LOL Oh and an observation, why are all the black people (except two, Murphys adoptive Dad and Detective Becker) criminals in one way or another? Becker even got killed, so really there's a single black person who's not into criminal stuff. Typical of TV shows unfortunately. Major eye roll about that.
