Don't always go by the rotten tomato reviews. This was one of the only shows I binged in a while and only because of a recommendation from a friend, the same friend who recommended the very underrated "kidding" with Jim Carrey.
I read some reviews least by people here saying it is predictable, I knew the full story going in and was still hooked by the way it unfolded episode by episode. Paul Rudd is the star here very convincing on making his character go from initially likeable to extremely manipulative and despicable, if you don't hate him by the end, you don't have a heart. Smaller than his real life counterpart and noticably smaller than Will Ferrell it was going to be a tough job convincing the viewer that he could manipulate and bully this man, but Paul rudds stellar performance and natural charisma manages to pull it off to great effect.
My only criticism of the show itself was, disappointingly and surprisingly, Ferrell's performance. It's not unusual to see Ferrell over acting but while Rudd falls in to his character very naturally, Ferrell's over the top mannerisms pull you out just a little bit by the end you will have to much empathy towards the character to care. His character
is big hearted and sentimental but is weak in confrontations, low in self confidence and self esteem. He, unlike rudds character isn't obsessed with expensive luxuries, cosmetic renovations ,keeping up appearances with higher society or money. He gets his happiness and comfort from sentimental item's left by his parent's and his pet fish.
