A lot happens in this film. And it's not a history lesson it's entertainment so I guess the Critic having a POC secretary and a plays producer being South East Asian is reasonable enough. And yes there should've been more diversity in 1934 but the fact is there wasn't and to suggest there was is kind of ridiculous and I just kept wondering can it be racist being patronising? But aside from the well-meaning juvenile diversity the real problem was the abundance of twists and turns in the plot. If you get this far in making a movie I thought you'd have stronger convictions and belief in yourself and your audience.
