Dickens wrote about classism, exploitation, and cruelty in the industrial age. Those were the characters and so it defies any place or era. Therefore, imo, those criticizing the casting have another agenda. In fact, though often left out of the history books, there were black and brown people who achieved high ranks in the upper class during this time. This is a wonderful modern day adaptation and probably closer to reality than the original which is cloaked in niceties for marketing purposes. Well shot. Well acted.
