Im an avid reader of Koontz (Ive read over 50 of his books) and I love 95% of his books so I can understand where he was going with this. That being said, I feel the story at times felt rushed due to too many scenarios going on seperately at once. This hurts character development. One persons story in the first few chapters actually disappeared from the story line altogether(I guess Dean realized enoughs enough with the multiple storylines) I'll let you figure out who it was who just kinda got cut out and it will hit you once they are mentioned in a brief sentence at the end...You'll say "Oh yeah! Forgot about him!" They didnt even need the mention at that point cause they were already forgotton by then....Lastly, If you're a 1st time reader of Koontz then go to Watchers, Intensity or Midnight as an entry to the genius of Koontz. If you start with this one, you may miss out on the genius of Koontz..... I personally love this book even with all its faults
