When a mysterious priest appears on a small close knit island and dead cats start appearing a very skilfully executed religious horror unfolds before your eyes.
It fuses great social commentary on religion with a slow burn horror mystery. Very pertinent in Africa with numerous dubious churches, is the not so subtle critique of fanatic Christian religion , our lack of religious tolerance and subversion of faith because of blind fanaticism.A very good reminder of how just like religion was used in colonisation -evil works best when it works in plain sight and it seduces the masses .
It’s very clever premise unlike many horrors doesn’t insult the audience with common tropes .It grips you with a mystery then invites you to watch the car crash and you will be both horrified and fascinated, at what happens to the naive residents of the island .The horror itself isn’t knew but how it executes its plan is very unique.
More than worth a watch .
