Only just finished the series, after it came up on our sky list (Atlantic), hadn’t heard about it before, which is odd, considering how good it is.
Wasn’t sure if Chris O’Dowd would be able to pull off such a complex man, as I tend to associate him with light comedy such as IT Crowd which he was brilliant in...but how wrong I was! He plays a borderline psychotic, cold, narcissistic, killer in one breath and then turns into this charming, smiling, caring family man the next moment.
The whole three series is superbly acted by all the cast, occasionally funny, but more often dark and sometimes violent, and shows the seedy side of the film industry which he breaks into, and of course the always seedy and violent side of gang warfare and drug dealing, of which there is never a nice ending!
The last series is only seven episodes as opposed to the ten of the first two, so took me by surprise as although it wraps up some of the storyline I did feel it could lay it open to a fourth series, although that would be hard given the circumstances now with social distancing.
Highly recommend it, and bears very little resemblance to the original film with John Travolta, so don’t expect it to. Five stars from me, and I hope to see Chris O’Dowd in many more films or series in the future, he was a revelation!
