Bette Davis is marvelous as the vain, shallow, insensitive "beauty" who marries wonderful Claude Rains for money, abandons her daughter and eventually finds redemption and peace in her old age.

Whoopi Goldberg steals the show. Patrick Swayze, Tony Goldwyn & supporting cast are very good. Demi Moore and that "gargled-with-gravel" voice are barely tolerable. Movie audience held their breath at the last 15 minutes of the film.

Poor Tennessee Williams! His brain must have been such a dark, murky, warped place, devoid of sunshine. With the exception of the lovely story he wrote about his boyhood, his loving aunt, and their kites, his stories were so depressing.

David Niven looks understandably chagrined, after Goldwyn snatched the role of "Dudley" away from him, relegating him to the thankless role of "Bishop Brougham." Cary Grant is woefully miscast as an angel. Tanned, lugubrious smile, buff...he looks like he came in from the gym or tennis court. Supporting cast is very good, especially Monty Wooley & Gladys Cooper.

Gene Tierney is a stunning beauty, but her stiff performance here is unconvincing. Clifton Webb & Vincent Price own this movie! Dana Andrews chews gum & talks tough, but seems miscast as the tough, streetwise detective.

Utterly charming with amazing musical numbers, photography and direction by Busby Berkeley.

It glamourized and glorified these two vicious psychopaths. The victims were mere props.

My grandmother, who lived through those times, said that this movie was absolutely accurate.

My first review was not posted. Forget the remake. THIS is the real deal! Is this film so far-fetched, really? Given the horrific activities of the CIA: "rendition," (kidnapping, secret Eastern European prisons, mass killings of innocent foreign civilians by depraved CIA subcontractors, like "Blackwater," etc. We've seen the highjacking of an American Presidential election in 2020. This movie was way ahead of its time.

As hilariously bad & preposterous as this movie is, it's impossible not to feel sympathy for Lon Chaney, Jr. Some of the movies he made toward the end of his career were truly awful.
