I wonder if Gareth Edwards would be able to direct a love story that didn't start with a massive explosion, was interspersed with massive explosions, and ended with a massive explosion. Does anyone do explosions as well or as often as Edwards? No, they don’t, and I don’t care. I didn’t go to watch this to have my thoughts provoked (you live on a rock spinning through space, and you need your thoughts provoked??). I went for and got exactly what I wanted… SCFI with a grumpy protagonist, a bit of shmush, sweet and funny kid, just enough baddies right or wrong, a more than plausible story, all beautifully shot, out of this world CGI, and jaw dropping crash bang wallop. More please!!
