I liked the movie, but two things that should have worked didn't work for me. Baz Luhrman's razzle-dazzle style should have worked better for such a razzle-dazzle story -- Elvis, rock and roll, Las Vegas -- but somehow it's didn't, not entirely. It should have been more gorgeous and sexier. The other thing that didn't work was Tom Hanks as Colonel Parker. Tom is a wonderful actor, I've liked almost everything he's ever done, but there was something off about the character. Not Tom's fault, but not his best. The makeup was not good, and it interfered with a good performance That said, Austin Butler was electrifying. He's the reason I gave it four instead of three stars.
