I loved this book I read it and listened to it a few months apart, I found new things in it. It is one of those books I will read every few years (like visiting old friends.) Stephen King writes the children and adolescent characters in such a real and honest way. I worked in a school for many years and I always feel like I know the young characters in his stories. It is wonderful for a writer to be able to tap into that youthful part of life.

I recently read this memoir as a book club selection. I did not enjoy it, it’s tone was sad and negative. I had hoped that there would be more emphasis on the positive things ( philanthropy, veterans causes ect). These subjects are covered, but it does not give the impression that Harry emphasizes the positive aspects of his celebrity and has not learned anything from the struggles of himself, his family or others. He has the right to air his experiences and his opinions, but I wish he would express appreciation for the wonderful things in his life. I read the book, those in my book club that listened to it enjoyed it more.
