I have never watched a Spanish show before and now I'm obsessed. I've already started looking for other Spanish shows to fill the void that was left behind by finishing Elite. What makes this show fantastic, above its many other fantastic qualities, is that the character development is gradual and believable, although unpredictable. It seemed a mirror for real life. My feelings toward characters would evolve in unexpected ways, but ways I think were part of the show's design. Additionally, the plots are palpably gripping. In the same way that JK Rowling planned out details books ahead of later books, so too does it seem the writers here had a vision behind the episodes. The way the different character arcs overlapped and connected made for a satisfying watch, even if it might be melodramatic. Do yourself a favor and watch!

My high hopes were quickly dashed. The storyline sounded topical and exciting: in our topsy-turvy political climate, here's a story about non-traditional political protagonists (high schoolers) navigating the same treacherous landscape. What a fresh perspective and a way to add levity to the day's political conversation. Or so I thought. For the first couple of episodes, the subplots operated in service of the main plot: getting Payton elected. But before long, like an overfilled duffel bag bursting at the seams, so too did the subplots. Many of the subplots veered wildly from the main plot, patently disconnected from the rest of the story. It was as if random and totally independent scripts in Hollywood were haphazardly mixed in with the script for this show. Especially after episode 5 (the series is a total of 8 episodes), the little entertainment value the show had was completely diminished. This is only the tip of the iceberg of the show's problems. And I was so hoping to be obsessed with this show. Sad.

This show is pure fun. Imagine having brunch with best friends on the patio of a french-style restaurant with the sun beaming down on you. Your friend is telling a hilarious story, your mouth full of a pain au chocolat. That kind of bliss is what you get when you watch this show. What makes this show so much fun is the ridiculousness of the plot coupled with excellent acting. Like a friend who is behaving sillily and inviting you to participate, so too does Dynasty invite you to suspend disbelief and to have fun in the absurdity. I have to say that the best part, though, has to be one of the character's (Fallon's) put-downs, comebacks, and retorts. Her prodigious wit is honestly a source of inspiration. She is the Dowager Countess of the modern age. Do watch if you want to relax and laugh to high heaven!
