A show that will stay with me forever.
Highly emotive with complex characters, relations, and themes that are well thought out and placed mindfully within the show.
It plunges past the easy-to-digest style of shallow love and rivalry genre, and truly investigates characteristics of people and how they develop from childhood. It forces us to accept how a person can even choose to change but still remain identifiable (again amazing character development from writers and skills from the actresses)
I felt uncomfortable at times because the notion of forgiveness, or wanting to be loved, was protrayed so matter-of-fact at times. Different to the over romanticed happy ending kinds of shows, but not so life like it was gritty or raw. It felt humbling. Like a reminder to be human. Hurtful, loving, and loved. The show kept me invested but I myself put off the last two episodes just so I could savour it.
I believe friendship is the most important relationship we will ever get to experience in this life. This show reminds us that friendship remains with the people we love, we hate, but will always carry in our and their lives. It may be down to something as simple as feeling nostalgic for a meal you once ate with a friend and their family, or even the profession you have ultimately ended up in. We affect and are affected all the time by our relations. But it is only ourselves we can ultimately be responsible for.
The only con is, I never want to hear that little song they play at every emotive scene. Happy, sad, reflective, poignant, regretful, whatever the emotion was they wanted the music for, it was the same song played for everything! If it was a show with episodes released weekly it would be easier to have and would create an almost soap opera feeling. But with it being on a streaming platform, it is most likely watched in a few sittings close together (across a week or two daily maybe) and so the song became repetitive to the point of it nearly being comical. I feel like the same song used is quite common in k-dramas. But this shows exploration of the character's friendship and complex themes, makes it feel much more mature than the usual k-dramas made available on streaming services. But this could simply be a style I'm just not use to.
Happy watching!
