...and to think, I almost didn't watch it because...
..the movie poster online makes it look like it is a a B-movie bc they make the wonderfully talented Viola Davis look like a 25 year old. I didn't even recognize her! The IMDB score is below 6 (at the time of this review). I just figured it was a B movie.
Fast-forward a week later and I keep seeing the poster and thought oh, that's weird. Usually they give the B-movies a day or two to be a part of the cycle but then off they go. But here it stayed. I clicked on the trailer button and ohhhh my goodness! I was seriously confused why this had such a low score compared to what was in the trailer. I saw some good acting and awesome fighting in the trailer. Definitely worthy of a 7 or 8 at least. I decided to watch it. It is a movie of the year nominee for me. I am a white male who grew up idolizing Bruce Lee, Mr. T, and JCVD. I am comfortable watching a movie where the woman/protagonist is BA (Xena, Peppermint, Black Widow, Crouching Tiger, etc) as long as the fight sequences look legit and there is not too much of a weight differential (3:1). This movie encapsulates that. Legit sequences where someone who is lighter is able to overtake someone who is heavier.
These women show a true warrior spirit in this movie.
