I would rate this show about 4.5 stars.. definitely enjoyable. If you notice by the ratings it's a people either love it or hate it. Don't compare this to the movie trilogy, it needs time to grow and develop on its own. As a stand alone it's fairly well done. Visuals are great, music is great. I personally like seeing galadriel and the elves embrace their elven superiority complex...they aren't necessarily supposed to be likeable. Writing could use some tweaks but it's the first season so I always give a bit of leeway. The writers could stand to be a bit more judicious with the limited time they have. Mind you for 8 hours of run time you can get through almost completely through the trilogy (no extended of course) . For roughly the same run time a lot of things didn't actually happen. I'm going to attribute this to world building and setting up the plot for the next season . Which I am excited for of course.

I laughed, I cried. The fact that the writers could balance comedy with such heavy and dark undertones . I honestly can't remember the last time a movie hit me in all the emotions and made it a joy to experience all of them.
