As a lifelong Anne Rice fan, and having read the full Vampire Chronicles collection many times over, I was skeptical when I saw the teaser for this show. At first glance, it looked far removed from the books. When the first episode aired, I was absolutely blown away by it. The new timeline and changes to the characters brought the same story we know back to life in an almost alternate timeline. The way Daniel is portrayed is exactly how I would imagine him to be if he were to reach that age as a mortal. Santiago's character is also completely different, yet still so much like the original. The creators of the show did an outstanding job!
