Never saw the anime and its cause I'm generally not a fan of anime as a whole. I was hesitant to try the show for that exact reason. I watched the first episode and was immediately hesitant. The strong undertones of anime like line delivery and cinematography but I kept going and fell in love with the show. My friends love cowboy bebop stretching back ages and I know they aren't nearly the fan of the live action version. This extends from basic plot points to character development and they definitely complain about Ed. That said, I still love this live action version and am actually giving the original anime a try. So, if you love the original you may dislike this version. But if youre new to it, or can disinfect yourself from much of the originals story arch in the beginning, you may just find yourself day dreaming of going cowboy in a galaxy after a good but of amnesia after coming off ice ;)
