I need to make sure that this review isn't taken as a review for the Sphere, the Sphere is neat, drinks are overpriced (not really, just expect strip prices), and it has a lot of potential for different events.
Our tickets for this show were half price (at $100 instead of $200 per person). I would probably pay $25-30 for this.
**SPOILER ALERT FOR "POSTCARD FROM EARTH" - AS YOU MOVE ON MORE WILL BE SPOILED**
Postcards from Earth:
First, the 'Interactive Exhibit'/pre-show, or however they are marketing it, is nothing. It's a bunch of 'Robots' with Chat GPT saying they want to be your friend. The Audio Technology examples are neat as well but, outside of it being old technology, it's just a way to keep you occupied in the lobby for what is suggested to be 45 minutes, its really about 10 minutes while you decide if you want to spend $20 on a can of beer that costs $3-$4 at a gas station.
***SPOILER ALERT #2 - DO NOT GOTO THE BOTTOM IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW***
This movie is basically just a bunch of AWESOME drone shots, the wider shots work perfectly (outside of this one little spot towards the bottom right where the stitching for the film for the screen wasn't perfect) in almost every scene. Scenes with buildings or close ups were quite distorted as they are straight lines on a curved screen, it may have been good dead center but if that is the case its a shame that only 20% of viewers have a perfect view. Even the CG in the film was quite amazing in the few shots that used it. Pretty much the nature shots = Awesome. Other shots = Meh. CG = Awesome.
***SPOILER ALERT #3 - DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS***
The turning point where this went from a 3 star experience to a 1 star experience is that it became political. It went from showing how awesome humans are to be able to do all of these different things to shaming us for living on a planet and destroying it. We all apparently need to leave the planet and let the planet regrow and only visit it from time to time.
***LAST CHANCE FOR NOT SPOILING EVERYTHING***
The movie ends with these space travelers (once again really really REALLY cool CG) going to a planet or moon surface of a Saturn like planet with the intent of colonizing it. They use a magic/technological 'seed' that immediately turns this wasteland into a Gaia Planet that even Earth would be jealous to be in it's best days.
Why have we been shamed for 20-30 minutes into being 'Bad Humans' should technology advance enough to be able to terraform an entire planet no matter it's condition? It just doesn't make sense.
The narration was good until this shame fest, an agenda was not needed nor would I expect it to sway anyone one way or another. They could have easily just kept doing what they did for the first half of the movie and then talk about colonizing other planets and I would have been content with the money flushed down the drain. It honestly felt more like an IMAX movie at a science museum that you went to as a kid (or now even).
Please save your money.
Friends won't let friends go see this movie.
