I only made it in a dozen or so pages but I am not reading any further and will be returning this book (or throwing it away!).
First of all, the premise of the book is evil and there should have been a trigger warning in the summary on the back of the book for the content. The main character is sixteen and was raped and got pregnant.
I am shocked that J.M Miro has a wife and two children because reading this I would have expected him to be a pervert living alone in a basement somewhere.
It also doesn’t make sense how the main character finds a baby next to its dead mother and takes care of the baby while working. I am a twenty-year-old mother and I would not recommend reading this book and CERTAINLY not letting your teenager read this book.
Secondly, as many other reviews have stated, it feels like the author published this book without an editor. The sentences are long and clumsy with unusual punctuation; I probably would have forgiven this if the story itself was not so horrific.
If you’re going to write a book with extremely upsetting content, you need to make sure your readers know what they’re getting into. The summary on the back of the book makes it seem like this is a fun, but grim Y/A novel about kids with special abilities, which is INCREDIBLY misleading.
I would give this negative stars if I could.
