Firstly - this is a fictional entertainment not an adaptation of Ben Macintyre’s book.
If you go in knowing that it does help but as someone who found the book gripping and thrilling, the fictional additions and changes to timelines and - crucially - characters’ motivations- grated as it went on.
It’s so well cast, produced and performed it almost gets away with it but in trying to portray Nicholas Elliott as a devious protagonist rather than someone taken in by a close friend they lose so much of what makes the true tale so fascinating.
A shame
