Ugh. Such wasted potential. The writing about food, cooking food, shopping for food, was all magical. But when it came to exploring the deeper emotions of betrayal and eating disorders this was very lazy. Leaving the “confession” out would be a great tactic if the other aspects of the protagonist finding her way after it were more deeply portrayed and felt and one could say that whatever it was, it simply didnt matter as a betrayal is a bettayal. Instead we were in very shallow territory when it came to describing emotions, the triggers and emotions around disordered eating, and relationship dynamics. That said, this author has potential but she needs to dig deeper and get darker.
