Overacted, oversung, a thoroughly charmless directorial misfire. The NYC choreography was, on the other hand, brilliant and so well executed. If only the director had more rehearsal time to bring in nuance, remind Ms Hannigan that had she behaved thus she would have been fired long before the depression.
Harry Conick is no Warbucks under this direction. Not even a CEO. And when Warbucks shows up at the orphanage instead of Grace for the signature on the adoption papers, all relationships with the original cartoon character, Broadway characters are off. A billionaire CEO would never have time to get his hands dirty doing his own dirty work.
In short, this production gives the Broadway musical a bad name. We are better than that. So much better.
