If I could give less stars I would. They messed up absolutely every single thing that people loved about the college football games. Dynasty? Ruined. The new system of recruiting is worse than terrible. I didn’t even bother playing it any more than a couple weeks. Road to glory, my all time favorite game mode, is immeasurably disappointing. Not only do they still have the worst blocking imaginable on offense, despite the rating of the blockers. They have a new and highly talented coaching engine. Its talents are calling the exact same plays on a loop throughout the entire game. That’s okay though because you can just change the play call. This will bring up two more plays to choose from, and the best part is they’re ALWAYS THE SAME TWO PLAYS! Taking you out of the game during key moments or potentially entire quarters/halves is also a very common occurrence, especially if it’s an important game or you’ve gotten your team very close to scoring. Some people say it’s because of fatigue, or because of the offensive style of the coach. Those people are liars. Multiple different offenses, multiple different teams, multiple different coaches, and yet they all do the same thing. Speaking of all doing the same thing, they all call the exact same plays. No matter what type of offense I found myself on, the coaches ALWAYS run exponential amounts of RPOs or other Option type plays. This makes sense for some teams, but other teams that do not have a good build for it still insist on running RPOs heavily throughout the game. I haven’t even mentioned the coach trust or depth chart system yet, but I will. Both coincide and are equally awful. Even though I got to a starting role, boundlessly exceeding my peers in coach trust, crushing my opponents on the field, taking teams to bowl games and winning, achieving the rank of national All American. Coming back the next year I was always placed all the way back in last on the depth chart. By the time I finished my position battles and gotten back in the starting role we had usually lost a rivalry game or otherwise important game. This entire system makes it exceedingly difficult to enjoy any game as it usually leads to me getting benched for large amounts of time, regardless of my role or position, and even when I am actually playing it’s always an uphill battle fighting your own idiotic coach. Even after then when you somehow manage to pull out the win and make it to the end of the season you always get punished for it at the start of next season. The only thing this game is good for is quick matches, it’s basically Tecmo Bowl with updated graphics. The slim moments of enjoyment from this game are not worth the frustration. I would sooner play a football game from Bethesda than I would ever touch an EA college football game again. Who or whatever slapped this thing together and said it was good to go not only needs to be fired, but they need to be barred from ever creating things again. If this is how badly they can mess up a game that people already loved, then I’d hate to see how bad they can mess up something new. Some people shouldn’t be blessed with imaginations, and every person that gave this game the green light is one of them.
