Spoilers.........Equalizer 3: A good trailer followed by a movie with poor writing that fails to showcase talent......
First and foremost Denzel Washington will always be Robert McCall and will always deliver an exceptional experience for viewers. Richard Wink who wrote Equalizer 1 & 2 with ink somehow decided children would write Equalizer 3 with colored pencils.... The plot and story are awful.
The good...
Denzel distributes some cruel means of justice to open up the movie.
I believe I recall 3 action scenes where ultimately the middle scene was the greatest part of the movie.
In the movie, Denzel portrays a retired Robert McCall who appears worn out and prepared to be a civilian. The film features a subtle romantic subplot and showcases McCall in his iconic "protector" role, as well as a man on a final mission. McCall delivers a mix of serious and entertaining lines throughout the dialogue. This finale is brings about an intriguing relationship, as McCall reunites with Fanning, reminiscent of "Man on Fire," and ends with him seemingly ready to embark on yet another mission, which is perhaps necessary to recover from the events of this film.
The bad......
There is no motivational speeches, no build up of another side character. At least with EQ1 he motivated the security guard, EQ2 he father figured the kid. Both movies had phenomenal speeches, and yet EQ3 has none of that!
I found the trailer to be quite misleading as it revealed the entire plot of the movie. My main concern is that it portrays McCall as facing an equal opponent, which I find amusing. It's baffling how the director or screenwriter could create such a formidable villain throughout a trailer, only to have them meet their demise in a ridiculous way.
Great first scene to get the tone of the movie, but the beginning drags out immediately following and it takes well into the allotted time to get to any "Equalizer" scene. I only became excited at the restaurant scene because due to the trailer I knew there would finally be an introduction between hero and villain.
I'm sure everyone is wondering where the anticipated final battle good against evil went. McCall deserved to take down the villain just in the same hand to hand fashion he did in the previous two movies. Poisoning him and following him through town until he dies is just the worst depiction of an ending and a let down in all honesty.
