Don’t get me wrong I love cage the elephant so much. I relate and enjoy practically all of their songs. And consider myself a fan since I can sing along to almost every song. But, this new album I was so excited for since they haven’t released since social cues in 2019. Yet, I do have to agree this is sadly the lowest ranked album of theirs for me. I’m not exactly sure what it is about it, but I feel like I’m missing the spunk and uniqueness/authenticity of cage the elephant in their earlier albums. What made me start getting into cte was how unique and cool they are. And their ability to tie in alt rock/indie into their music. But this album really just doesn’t do it for me. It definitely feels much more like a pop genre and that cte is trying to fit in to the newer popular bands. But I feel like this album is really just missing that early 2010’s cte rock. Also not gonna lie, some of the lyrics really just feel like scratching the top of an idea or an expression. So many times, I’m able to really read into cte’s lyrics on their earlier albums and quite literally find the message typed beneath. But in neon pill, it just feels like such bland simple lyrics that any band could write, and it honestly is sort of sad to see because I know that cte is so different and amazing at what they do, so seeing the lyrics like in out loud and good time that practically just say simple sentences like “ Man, I really messed up now” compared to the amazingly thought out lyrics in their earlier songs. I feel like cte needs to get back to their uniqueness and not be afraid to hold it back, because that’s really what us fans love. Also, as well as the awesome music to each of their songs that really tie in the theme and vibe of their songs. To conclude, I love cage the elephant, and I’m very excited to see what’s coming in the future for this band, but neon pill definitely was a big let down not only for me but many other fans as well.
