I was really looking forward to watching the new “Fresh Prince….”/….“ Bel Air” My twelve year old and I always enjoyed watching Fresh Prince together. I kinda felt it was pretty close to being a family show. But, this new show “ Bel Air” ….WOW! I am so glad that I watched Bel Air before watching it with her. Although, I am a bit shocked in the changes and the decision to keep the character names I am very much into the show and find it very well written. I don’t understand how or why they affiliated or kept the character names of Fresh Prince in the Bel Air show. They are so different. I also don’t care for the stereotyping of our race usage of violence, filthy language, n word usage, drugs, etc. The original Fresh Prince showed us as successful, mild mannered, family oriented, etc. Bring Fresh Prince back in a similar way. I know I am sounding a bit contradictory here but I have mixed feelings regarding the new show. There are enough drama shows shown in this way on us, as a people. They could have made this a whole new show perhaps even a movie. However, with that been said they did a wonderful job with the writing. The writing is so incredible it makes it hard to kick the program to the side. This show is very addictive and the content is so real. I’m not one for all of the violence and bad language but the show itself is so well written that I can’t help but be entertained by it. I can’t let my little one join me in watching Bel Air but I cannot stopping watching it myself. I cringe at some of the things but I cannot let it go. I guess that’s the purpose. I ain’t mad at you, make that money Will! Smart man cater to all folk and mankind! They should have named it “Bel Air’s Fresh Prince”! Although, the names are the same, the content difference implies that Bel Air has a New Fresh Prince. This new Fresh Prince and his new associates are definitely NEW and FRESH! Kudos to the writers!
