After a long time in tamil cinema , a director has had the courage to portray the superstar Rajinikanth in a good strong story without compromising on having enough Rajinified moments , and both successfully done in a balanced manner. A lot of directors have tried it in the past but would have failed in one of the two aspects . Kudos to Mr Gnanavel first of all for having achieved that.
From a good film s point of view, thalaivar is just one of the important characters in the film , which means all characters in the film are important for the story and help to carry it forward.
Thushara Vijayan is one of the luckiest actresses in the recent past who has been privileged to either have a story revolving around her or leaving a very meaty impact in the film. She should be extremely grateful to Mr Gnanavel because she is the soul of this big film which has a dream star cast who are much bigger than her in both experience and stature.
The scenes and ideological differences between the two budding actors Shahenshah and Badshah of indian cinema are very interesting to watch and are very much in line with the core story.
Fahad Faasil could have been named battery and not Patrick in the original place. If story is revolving around Thushara Vijayan , screenplay is revolving around Fahad and thalaivar.
Rithika Singh does her job very neatly as a cop .
Manju Warrier , though remains muted for a major part in the film as thalaivar s wife is given one scene at the end which just makes the theatres erupt. In addition the words that thalaivar says over phone during that scene evokes even bigger laughter.
Abhirami and Rohini do their roles to perfection , though they have a very small screen time.
The main villain of the film Rana Daggubati comes only in the second half . Rana has done what is intended of him and there can be some section of the audience saying there is not enough cat and mouse game between thalaivar and Rana .
But the motive of the director is to tell a relevant compelling story than to create mass moments between the hero and the villain.
The basic concept that every citizen in the country should be treated equal in front of education and law is the core of the film and it has been spoken from the point of view of coaching centres for a particular entrance examination and police encounters . To blend both in a single story is a good feat by the director as it cannot be spoken in length in two different films.
So all in all Vettaiyan is more a director s film than a thalaivar film , where every character plays an important role . I wish , pray as a thalaivar fanatic that he does more films like this in future.
The film is a must watch for all family audiences in the modern context of education and for the society where encounters have a lot more relevance and importance behind the scene.
One important thing that is said in the film is that encounters are dished out on people with lower social status only and not on higher ones and crimes are not restricted to any particular society.
So in short this film is a film for equality for everyone in the eyes of law and education.
