I saw Captain America: Brave New World last week, and after letting it sink in, I can confidently say—it’s a fantastic film that’s receiving way too much undeserved backlash. Walking out of the theater, I felt like a kid again. Sam Wilson’s Captain America, with his aerial combat skills and vibranium-powered attacks, is an awesome evolution of the character.
Yet, the movie is being criticized for three main reasons: the lack of Red Hulk, supposed political messaging, and claims of a boring plot. Here’s why those complaints don’t hold up.
Lack of Red Hulk – While marketing hinted at Red Hulk, the real twist—the return of Samuel Sterns (The Leader)—was a much better surprise. The buildup to his reveal was well done, and the misdirection made for a more engaging experience.
Political Complaints – Some claim it’s "too political," while others say it doesn’t address race enough—contradictory takes that prove people are overanalyzing. The film is about Captain America, not real-world agendas. It’s time to stop making everything a political debate.
Boring/Inconsistent Plot? – Many who call the movie confusing or dull simply haven’t kept up with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier or past Captain America films. If you’re unfamiliar with key characters like Samuel Sterns, of course, it won’t hit as hard.
This movie is currently rated lower than The Marvels, Thor: The Dark World, and Eternals, which is just absurd. If you think Brave New World is worse than those, I encourage you to rewatch and reconsider. This is a great superhero film that deserves more love.
