I've heard many people put this in their top 5 or top 10 anime of all time, so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Honestly I was overall disappointed with the show. It got off to a slow start for only 26 episodes, and it never really went anywhere. All the while we have this large scale, attack on titan-esque conspiracy growing in the background with potential to make for one of the most exciting plot lines in anime. Instead the finale of the show was Shinji accepting himself for who he is? As heart warming as that is, for it to be the focal point of the entire series is a waste of some great setup. I haven't watched anything beyond Neon genesis, but I have some big unanswered questions about the Evas, Adam and Lilith, and Ikari's master plan that now is just seemingly Shinji's personal growth. I give it a 4.8/10. The awkward still frames and the random nudity of underage girls kind of killed it for me as well.
