*5/5? More like 100/100!*
I've got nothing but praise for this game. SOD slaps hard! It's the best survival game I've ever played.
*What sets it apart*
There are 3 different gameplay options, and it's literally survival mode - you can't change the difficulty settings. If you can't handle a challenge, this game might not be for you. But if you enjoy survival games like Fallout, Skyrim, or Left 4 Dead in survival mode, you'll love it.
*Don't get caught slacking*
One tip that'll save you grief: double-check those button combos when leveling up characters. It can be the difference between life and death. And don't even think about getting attached to your survivors - except for a select few like Marcus, Ed, Maya [The starting survivors; Ed is non-playable until a bit further into the game] and Lily Ritter, who, despite being confined to the community home, plays a vital role, and her personal struggles add an extra layer of depth to the game. Don't neglect your home sites - build beds and amenities, or your survivors will struggle. Exhausted characters have basically no chance of survival without a healthy dose of luck or cheating. If any other character dies, they're gone for good - no saves, no second chances.
*Ignore the naysayers*
I've seen people on Reddit discussing limitations and possibilities in the game, but trust me, anything is possible. My own experience has shown that the game is more flexible than people think. Your decisions, weight limits, morale, sickness, and resource management all have a major impact on the game and its ending. Nothing is set in stone - except for a few key characters, anything can happen. And yes, I'm referring to the ones who let Maya get so severely depressed that she takes her own life, but she was my final girl.
