This book was an emotional waste. In true Grisham fashion it keeps you reeled in but the ending was terrible. And at completion it was all too clear that none of the story mattered at all. And the truth that was painstakingly hidden for 500 pages is a reflection of the disgusting truths of race relations, white privilege and a Karen that ruined everything. While this may be a tale of fiction...it’s resulting consequence has rang true for many destroyed lives in past and present reality. And for the author to carelessly toss up that ending when it could have had greater social context and value has soured my desire to patronize any of his current or future novels.
