I found this book to be very up lifting. I majored in physics in attaining my undergraduate degree, and I always believed that global warming caused by man could be alleviated through the use of safe, secure nuclear energy. Fission reactors have sought to provide bountiful energy, but as Mr. Turrell points out, recent accidents, the threat of fissile material proliferation and radioactive waste makes this resource less desirable in the long run.
Arthur Turrell does an excellent job of explaining complex technical designs for harnessing nuclear fusion. He does so using verbiage which is intelligible, even by the non technical individual. Turrell does an excellent job of reviewing the current state of the art in nuclear fusion. I am relieved to learn that he anticipates its arrival as a reliable practical energy source perhaps within the next 15 years or sooner.
