My Rating 10/10
First Non English and Korean Oscar winner "Parasite" (2019)
‘Parasite' is a fantastic film that really has no set genre as you will experience a drama, thriller, romance and horror all in one! Always i think that action films are best but after watching “Parasite” my thinking was changed. This is a well written and well performed original masterpiece film.
One of the greatest reveals of this movie is even if you think you are the lowest, there are people lower to you and even lower to them . The Park family is rich. They have this huge house designed in luxury and it's too spacious for four people. The Kim family lives in a Semi basement, forced to occupy four of them in a space sufficient for one.
In this movie, I felt great sadness and empathy that the family had to go through such manipulations just to obtain jobs, which even combined, were still not enough to get them out of squalor. It was emotional that the father was worried about the people who lost their jobs as a result of the families' scheme. I loved that the family stuck together and even simple things like sharing some beers was so profound - because not many a modern family spends time together anymore.
It may seem all well and dandy until the rich family goes on a camping trip, that makes the poor family decide to stay at the nice house, while they are drinking and enjoying life, but then thats were all the mystery, horror, and drama starts.
I love the idea of a secret basement with a locked up man inside, and how they have to cover up they're identity.
I fell sadness when the poor peoples house flooded and they were homeless and how the old housekeeper and the man was locked in the secret basement all hurt and about to die. I raged with anger when Mr.Park plugged his nose towards the end, even amidst the massive trauma and deaths. As if the smell of an "old radish" was worse than murder! To live such a life that smells are your worst worry!
In the end, I cried when Ki-Woo made a plan to get rich and save his father. Even though his father had warned never to make plans as they never work out.
The performances from everyone was brilliant and there's so much depth to each character, they make the movie as captivating as it is. The cinematography was beautiful and the music was remarkable.
An organism which get it's nutrients by living on other organism will be termed as “Parasite”. What a fitting title this movie has got. Here a poor family becomes the parasite over a rich aristocratic family who trusts everyone too easily based on one thing which is class and connection with foreign. After watching this movie i feel that no other title can match this brilliant movie. Every organism in this world is in symbiotic relationship with other. What this relationship demands is not just money or salary. But 'Self-respect'
The story tries to establishes that we, human beings, all are parasites in some or other manner
