This movie is formulaic and boring in it’s attempts to cleanly wrap up 42 years of Star Wars in a Disney-esque bow. While it has stunning and sweeping visuals, the character development and plot is reminiscent of the straight to DVD 90s sequels that ruined many classic Disney franchises. The creative team clearly played it safe and in doing so left the theater literally groaning, laughing, and incredulous at moments that were meant to carry emotional weight. While individual performances are strong, the fast pace of the film robs audiences of the opportunity to experience any emotion, and left me wishing I had just gone to bed earlier.
Save yourself the movie theater hassle and watch the original trilogy from home. At least you’ll be entertained.
