The movie from a first glance took the same approach in the trailer to the previous, alien meets starship troopers and that's until the fireballing weakling demon shows up and I thought 'finally a shred of the lore shows up!' and that alone made it more worthwhile than the '05 version. Yes, yes hardcores, it doesn't bear the same quality as most big-screen Hollywood films, not even the acting but that's what you can expect from a non-cinema film. It definitely looks as though rookies who wrote 10 year old fan-fiction the quality level of Twilight made the film as a High School movie project for extra credit so they could get an A in class.
I however say, better it be channeled straight to video as a low-budget trainwreck since Dragon Ball Z and The Last Airbender than it be what you get on the big screen at the movies. I'm not sure on these rumors about it being some 'progressive politics' driven 'alleged SJW Feminism since Captain Marvel' intended and outright tailored to insult Doom to its core film, maybe you other guys have more 'inside info' on the film than I got. I do know that this was done by UNIVERSAL STUDIOS AGAIN! and that even ID said they had nothing to do with this film's creation which is a resounding *cough* correction... SONIC BLAST ECHOING reason to avoid it altogether. This Doom had the same misfortune that Devil May Cry did with DmC Devil May Cry being produced by someone who clearly didn't care a whittle about the product, I wonder if the film makers for this Doom were more about their egos as Tameem was for IF that was so then that is a HUGE prompt to say 'let this film burn in the ninth circle of hell where it belongs, and let the cast and crew who made it receive shame for all eternity' but IF it isn't then I'd say give it a try shelving your egopathic defenses until after you've watched it.
After watching it I retract much of my negativity, for those calling this 'another captain marvel feminist message-esque film' I saw enough strong male and female characters alike. The whole 'High School project' thing is redundant as it looked more like a made for TV movie than some cheap YouTube fan movie. As Doom was meant to be fast-paced and a ton of action going on this film had it about as often as Resident Evil Extinction did. They did the plot from Doom 3 and I agree that game would have been better off a cinematic film though the lack of major consistent action sequences was its Achilles heel. The film definitely got off to a slow start and there was some metal music going on but not enough to keep you pumped. I would say this film is more of a 'prologue' than a major story and there are no political, SJW, agenda-ish messages to all you mundanes spouting that as your biggest gripe. I definitely slapped mysoginism square in the face and had the warrior cultural sense of the vikings. In a way this film made Doom 2005 look (I repeat) like an Alien meets Starship Troopers with typical mercs in the mix (mercs as in when they aren't fighting they are thinking about drinking, fat wallets and getting laid) which leads me to the surprise there wasn't any nudity in the film like Doom 2005, of all its pit falls and gripes it still held on to integrity of being a proper Doom film. If only The Rock's Doom could have done that the first time around, this film's existence wouldn't be necessary. After this film, I expect it to pick up speed and put more of the ensemble of demons into it and possibly the doom guy shows up as likely the only other survivor and we can have a doom guy/girl duet! (shut it mundanes about your 'sausage fest' you get plenty of that in the games and in mods) Yes the film could start doing better now as far as plot, character and the such, perhaps Hollywood pros will care to listen this time and maybe the director will include IDs aid in developing it. Until then this is what we get.
