This film somehow manages to exploit Norma Jeane even more than men of her time did. It portrays her as a woman with nothing to offer except her body, and victimizes her so that she is nothing but a damsel in distress who needs rescue. This movie is only contributing further to the gross abuse of women in any industry, but especially film. You can make a point with subtext, which leads me to wonder why they needed such graphic scenes of abuse. It seems like the only purpose of that would be to appeal to disgusting men who romanticize trauma that belongs to other people. It also goes into rumors and speculation that is never the right of filmmakers to delve into without either explicit statements from the victim that they made publicly, or whilst being very careful as not to solidify these things as facts in ignorant/vulnerable people's minds.
Please, take care to represent these kinds of stories. Use this film as a negative example.
