Personally, I feel the fan response to this show has been ridiculous. Is it the best Star Wars IP out there? Hell no. But I agnostically watched the first 4 episodes of the Acolyte before I realized everyone decided to hate it...
And I enjoyed it. Legitimately and honestly.
Yeah, the whole fire scene on Brendock was a little... rushed. Yeah, I would have dialed in the suspense (over Mae and her master) a bit differently. But Star Wars has always been an exploration of morality more than mystery.
And why is everybody freaking out over woke themes or whatever? They used an ambiguous pronoun for a non-human creature with (presumably) non-human gender physiology. Bro, who TF cares. And the lesbian-ish witches who use the force... is the Jedi's intolerance of this a metaphor for prejudice in our own society? I suppose. But I ain't mad about it. Prejudice takes many forms and it's a worthy dramatic pretext.
Personally, I love the fact that they're exploring the flaws of the Jedi. I love that the fact they're delving into the SW universe before the High Republic. I'm very curious to learn the identity of Mae's master. I also happen to think Amandla Stenberg is super talented and plays the role well. The fight scenes are dope.
Maybe I'll dislike this show more, as it progresses. But, as of episode 4... I'm legit looking forward to episode 5.
