Being from half way around the world and never having heard of Selena before, I was curious to know more her story and its impact, even if through fiction. However, I have to say that I would give it 0 starts if I could, on the account that the main character is definitely not Selena (it's her *father*) and she is represented/written as near flat character, and mostly from the perspective of others, with the story feeling highly curated to represent a single selected view and failing to touch anything deeper or even nuanced. Even if one argues that the purpose of the series was to entertain, rather than represent, the series fails to do so effectively. I can safely say that I got a better grasp and definetely more engaging read about her life, conquest and challenges, through other sources . I also feel it's quite a disservice to someone, who was clearly deeper than this and has touched the lifes of so many, to be represented in such a precarious way.
