Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties (2006) is truly a masterpiece in our time. It's full of twists and turns, betrayal and murder, death and destruction, and the humour is dark and well balanced.
The movie starts in the middle of the second Garf Civil War with all of the G-Clones fighting over the last golden slice of lasagne. After it is taken by King G and hidden away to keep peace between the land, all of the clones die out except for two. This reduction in protection of the land allows a new threat to arise. The neighbouring kingdom led by the infamous prince O-Dawg kidnaps King G's most faithful and trusted subject: His Royal Highness' right hand servant - Jon Arbuckle.
To rescue his servant from the clutches of his enemy, King G must band together with Jon's future wife Liz the Vet and Prince XII (King G's twin cousin) to stop O-Dawg's right hand man, the most feared man in all the land: Lord Dargis.
I LOVE the plot twist at the end with Jon actually being the true mastermind trying to manipulate King G into killing his dog so that he can become the king. Overall, I just really appreciate the darker tone this movie has in contrast to the previous one's childish humour that looks like it came from a comic strip. A good example of this darker tone is when Jon contemplates suicide as an alternative to ruling the kingdom, causing it to fall into chaos. And then having Liz being the one to kill him at the end... just PERFECT!
If you are a fan of Shakespeare's dark and gritty stories, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties (2006) is a real treat. 11/10
*sigh*... what am I doing with my life?????
