Persuasion is simply a beautiful novel. So why ruin a beautiful thing for entertainment purposes? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This director was trying too hard to be liked by a younger generation. She may not have even read Jane Austen’s novel. This movie was trash. Dakota Johnson seemed like a promising choice to play Anne Elliot but she bombed the role. I am embarrassed for her. She had one job, to ACT like she liked Wentworth. Who cares that the cast has diversity? How does it improve a movie? Love Golding because he’s a fabulous actor, Johnson could have been replaced by a more talented brunette of any ethnicity who cares.
