I look at this series as being somewhere between McHale’s Navy and the old television series Combat. Entertaining, but not very realistic in the way they conduct their operations. The great thing to me about Sea Patrol is they’re not using the F/word, or other really bad language. Also, you don’t see them in the rack with someone else’s wife or the one proverbial gay scene in each episode (maybe because of the date this series was made). You can actually set down and watch it with your family and not cover the children’s eyes and ears. There will be many who will comment that leaving out all the profanity, nudity and gay stuff doesn’t reflect the real military. I like that they’re not pushing the Liberal social agenda and trying to make the military look like the rest of this crazy upside down world. After a long career in the Marine Corps, I won’t argue that you hear a lot of foul language from some, but not all service members. It’s was always refreshing to see and communicate with Marines and Sailors who could effectively communicate with one another without all the macho profanity. Having also served with Australian military forces in the past, I experienced nothing but real pro’s. Sorry the series is over and you can’t find something like it on TV anymore.
