I'm going to keep this as honest and straight forward as I possibly can, if it turns into a rambling session, I'm deeply sorry.
(WARNING, SLIGHT SPOILERS, FOR THE FIRST 10-15 MINUTES AT LEAST)
When I first started the movie, I thought it was going to be something like, let's say, more family/friend love oriented? I wasn't exactly expecting a stereotypical newly teenage girl to be drawing perverted things in a notebook about a boy she barely knew about, hah. I mean, I get it, some people may think this sort of thing when they develop an attraction to someone (written by someone that never did), but I think that would be more for a, um, made up person? It's a bit odd that they made it an actual person, I think it would have been better if it was someone out of a book or a movie. It might have been a bit more realistic, if that does happen a lot. Kinda reminds be of the creepy BTS stans now that I think about it.
This movie just reminds me of gender stereotypes, or just stereotypes in general, it's full of them to be honest. I understand that Pixar is owned by Disney, and I shouldn't of expected anything more, but are you kidding me?! All the girls have the same personality with one difference, and so do the boys.
I honestly don't know how to put it into words, I felt awkward half the time watching it, and this isn't coming from an adult, I'm only a bit older than most characters in there! I'm sure it would have been better if the characters all had their own personality and growth.
In conclusion, 2 stars, the pandas was cute, and that's what you get the extra star for, but it feels like feminism written by straight, cis, white men.
Disney just ran out of ideas that are focused on a boy and a girl getting together, people came after you too much for making Snow White 14 and Prince Phillip 31? Don't worry just make it so they don't get together this time! (This is obviously sarcastic, STOP MAKING PEOPLE WITH SUCH BIG AGE AGE GAPS HAVE CRUSHES ON EACH OTHER WHEN ONE IS SO YOUNG, ONE SIDED OR NOT. IT'S STILL DISGUSTING)
