This album speaks to me from the theatre. It’s Rachel from Glee. It’s that show, that miniseries that makes you cry when you’re not expecting it. The album is a mini-series…it’s a broadway show where all you have is the soundtrack and that’s all you need. Music isn’t and shouldn’t always be about “did it make me want to dance, did it make me feel happy, does it take me away from the things I hate about my everyday life”. No this album is the other side of art that bears the ugliness of life straight out into the open of glaring sunlight. Art makes you feel, whether you like the way the art makes you feel or not is up to the person consuming the art. It strikes conversation and thought. Causes a person to ponder why do I like it…why do I not like it. Art. Art isn’t meant to mainstream. Taylor has always been an artist but with this album…she has finally leaned into who she is in her soul…a tortured artist…or a tortured poet.
