11/10.
I set myself a 100 book goal for 2023, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, was book number 70.
I have so far rated all of the books I have read this year, and only 1 was a 10/10, and this book, blew all others out of the water.
I related so much to Eleanor, sadly. Although my childhood not quite as traumatic and violent, I too, suffered greatly at the hands of the only mother I knew, and I still hear her voice, much as Eleanor did. I also spent years in foster care, and now, I too - with no parents, siblings or other extended family, feel at many times, so alone in the world. Woe is me, yes I know. BUT because I related so much to Eleanor, I was able to take very valuable lessons from this book, and I also felt quite seen, in her place. I could also empathise with her and feel compassion, in ways I haven’t shown myself.
I loved the writing, the story and the lessons. What a blessing. Thank you Gail.
