There is absolutely no denying that every person in this film is extremely talented and can sing VERY WELL…but good God this movie felt forever long and it’s not even over yet. And I’ve purposely sat through LOTR extended cuts and I generally love musicals. But in perspective, this first part is longer than the stage play is and the stage play has been heralded as one of Broadway’s best for decades. There is literally no reason for it to have felt like it just dragged on in so many parts. That aside. I don’t have many negative thoughts about the Ariana and Cynthia’s portrayals. I think they did a good job. I prefer Idina’s version of Defying Gravity and always will…but that’s not to say Cynthia isn’t incredible. It could be my hopes were all just too high because I walked out feeling very meh 🫤. It was way too long and I think Jeff Goldblum was miscast as the Wizard. But that’s just my two cents.

Severely disappointed in this movie. It was very rushed and overcrowded with too many plots that they did a poor job juggling. The pacing is very unsteady. So many choices were made that are so glaringly obvious to be the result of convenience for the plot, it was outrageous and distracting. Random moments that made absolutely no sense unless you are a hardcore Marvel fan getting the obscure reference. Random slow-mo in odd places that added nothing and just made you go my god that was unnecessarily long for no reason; like we get it the guy is strong or okay we get it he punched him hard enough to throw him to the other side it’s not even that impressive to see in a literal movie about super powers. Some CGI was She Hulk level bad. And on top of all that there was absolutely no soul in anything they were doing. The actors are all dead eyed. You could tell they didn’t want to be there. Whether that’s because of Chadwick (rip) or just because they knew what they were making wasn’t very good we will never know. But overall it was terrible in my opinion and I won’t be watching it again. I will also probably take a step back from going to see marvel films in the theater. This is third of their projects in a row that I left the theater mad I wasted my time. I used to love love love Marvel. Not anymore. Now it’s a mess.
