The H.P. Lovecraft book lying on at table in the opening scenes told me the writers, director and producers have RESPECT for real writing - and they never let that feeling down. Music tracks selected were genius. Everything was good about this movie and Amber Heard was the first believable female partner-protagonist in forever. Truly excellent casting, Kidman was more or less Daryl Hannah's iconic mermaid from 'Splash.' This slots into the 'lives forever' mythology of the Cosmos. The visuals were literally quite beautiful and the inclusion of the image of bio-luminescence inside the whale was clever.

This movie is a 'sleeper.' Too many people who take themselves too seriously and who also think they are realists and cynics, don't get this movie at all. This is a good movie. Tremendously well-cast, intelligent without leaving tracks of that facet, and droll in a self-assured way that gives me hope - hope for what was left of this lost generation so dumbed-down yet so full of itself that it doesn't care about its own cultural history and the legacy that only a handful of people left in Hollywood are still protecting for dear life. This movie is about the winners, not the whiners.
