The movie could have substantiated the height of maturity that Bollywood film has attained so far. It doesn’t wait mentioning that Indian film industry has successfully proved that movie with female lead can bring equal box office success as any other typical super hit movie of 90s . Rather to be more specific after “Lipstick Under My Burkha” this movie could have come up as another remarkable example of that particular genre where the lead characters especially the female ones are not hesitating to express their thoughts and feelings regarding matters which are still considered as social taboos.
Here I’ll deliberately not mention about the powerful acting of both the female leads as there is really not much to say about their astonishing acting capabilities specially in character acting. They are just incomparable. They are the trend setters. But in today’s scenario, we often find that the main protagonist of a movie is not any particular actor nor even the hero or the heroine. It is the story, the screen play or the script that is the real protagonist of a movie and the director plays a major role in making it a successful one. From that point of view, the movie is seriously lacking a good script. The movie has a message and it conveys the message boldly without any ambiguity . But to do that it had sacrificed a lot. I have never seen Konkona and Bhumi Pednekar performing in a play with such imperfect story. It is really disappointing to see their brilliant performance getting used in such a “typified & cliche” screenplay. I really like to know about that co-Ed school where girls students and boys students are taken separately for school trip in two separate destinations (shown in the movie as if characteristically different). In my city, there is the renowned Nehru Children’s Museum housing it’s famous doll’s museum popular to all kids - boys and girls equally. Never heard any school arranging a separate trip for their girl students to visit that place. Yes. Parents often come to the teachers with severe complaints regarding the fellow students of their kids. But never heard the Principal arranging a cock- fight for both the parties. I would like to know What kind of teachers fail to gauge the sensitivity behind that particular case which is so highlighted in today’s media and other form of social documentation. A school with gender biasing, least sensitive about the coping problems of a child with different gender identity ( better to say unaware of the fact that such a term even exists ) is running so nicely and preparing future citizens of India. Really an alarming fact to know how many such schools are there all over the country. Last but not the least is the fair scene. Pity to the sculptor who came there to convey her thoughtful messages. The story just needed all the characters to be present there and some violence to take place . The combination was simple. The word “confused” ( used by Radha eka Konkona just within a few minutes of starting of the movie) played a great role in the film . Most of the major characters in the movie are more or less confused about his / her life, choices, future ,about what he/ she wants to do and what he/ she does. The course of action ultimately led the two main characters to sort things out in their life. Only the screenplay remained unsorted and drastically lagging behind.
