I know some people think that the heroine, (Naru), shouldn’t have been able to realistically defeat the predator for various reasons, such as how she failed with a simple mountain Lion or how the predator was able to take out dozens of French Colonizers, yet fumbled when it came to a young girl.
Well, the way I saw it was that was kind of the whole point. The predator never saw her as a threat. Every time it encountered her she had been in the midst of being attacked or captured. It let it’s guard down and even when she finally challenged it, it probably didn’t think she would be much of a fight. Her physical capabilities were good, but essentially it was her wit and good sense that enabled her to defeat it in the end.
I also don’t think her messing up with the mountain Lion is a testament to her strength and skill. Even the most experienced and skilled hunters can make fatal mistakes in those situations, it comes with the territory. Her brother also told her that he used her plan to capture the lion in the end and that’s why he was successful, and that’s exactly what she did with the predator, just this time she didn’t freeze up like she did with the lion (character growth!) She meticulously laid out traps, used the Frenchman as bait, camouflaged herself with the herbs and used the fact that the predator saw her as “Prey” to her advantage.
Anyways, that’s my two cents. I enjoyed this movie a lot. Also, I’m REALLY glad the dog doesn’t die, lol.
