Like many of the others who have reviewed this programme I was hugely disappointed. Why mess with a classic story line and introduce an insipid love story as the central theme? It failed completely (perhaps with the sole exception of the battle on the beach) to capture the excitement and horror that I felt reading it many years ago as a 12 year old. The constant jumping around In the stories timeline added nothing but confusion to the narrative. Another victim of political correctness - strong leading lady , anti imperialist rant delivered by her dull ineffective husband who spent most of the series looking wooden , thoughtful , wooden confused, wooden. I found myself longing for the Martians to carry him off screaming. Terrible
